PARISH MINISTRIES

  • MUSIC MINISTRY

Music Ministry is a collection of musicians and singers offering their talent to provide music for the parish. Cantors are needed for all Masses. Cantors and choir groups sing at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays.

Choir rehearsals are on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the choir loft.

Tim Johnson is the music director, organist and may be contacted by text at 260-312-0531 or at timothy.johnson94@gmail.com. Cheryl White, Elle Gunkel and Paul Dietrich are also parish musicians. Additional musicians are welcome.

Our ministry is all volunteer. There is a monetary stipend for the musicians and singers for funerals and weddings.

  • KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus are a part of over 2 million members in 16,000 councils around the world made up of practicing Catholic men, 18 and over, who combine the values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism to help others to maintain a path of virtue.

The founding of the Knights of Columbus by Blessed Fr. Michael J McGivney in 1882 was with the goal of providing to those widowed and orphaned by the death of the family breadwinner.

It was his vision that no woman or child should be impoverished due to the death of a Husband/Father.  To this day, the Knights of Columbus insurance program remains at the top of the list of MOST ETHICAL COMPANIES IN AMERICA.  It should be noted, that you are NOT required to buy insurance as a member; and even non-members of the Knights can buy select investment products of the Knights.

Locally, our Knights donate thousands of hours, and raise thousands of dollars each year to support service to our Parish, our Priests, and our Community.  Additionally, programs to support Seminarians, schools, youth and even the unborn are a major part of our program.

To show our commitment to our Parish members who would like to join, we would like to extend an offer of joining the Knights risk-free and at no cost, by going to https://www.kofc.org/Join and use the code BLESSEDMcGIVNEY.  If asked for a local council, use number 13142.  Later, if you would like to join the St. Aloysius Knights, you can do so by contacting any member.  Online member dues are no cost for the first year.  Local dues are $25 per year if you choose to join us after trying the online membership.

  • PRO-LIFE COMMITTEE

Members of this group gather to pray the Rosary for the sanctity of innocent human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. They work with the Right to Life of Northeast Indiana and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend to pray outside of Planned Parenthood offices, participate in marches, raise funds for pro-life ministries, as well as many more activities.

  • PARISH COMMITTEE

The St. Aloysius Parish Committee was formed in the fall of 2017 as an advisory committee to our pastor, Monsignor Bruce Piechocki. Its primary purpose is to enhance communication and build community among the parishioners of St. Aloysius. Based on survey results of parishioners, the Parish Committee has ascertained many projects and community building events favored by a majority of the parish.

With approval and hours of volunteer support and generous donors over the past 5 years, many projects have been accomplished, namely: refurbished pews in the church, a redesigned website for the church and school, new HVAC, a PreK playground, new flooring in the entry way and remodeled bathrooms in the original school, a fresh coat of paint in the school hallways, basement, and kitchen, the perimeter fence repaired and maintained, and a new roof for the rectory. Currently, the need has surfaced to replace the oven and cooler in the Activity Center.

Preferred events have been held including: Bingo Night with Chili Dump, Parish Picnics and Potlucks, Raffles, Farmers Markets, Flea Markets, Craft Bazaars, and recently, brought back by popular demand, the St. Aloysius Festival held annually in August. These events and others enable parishioners to come together and share fellowship with one another. Due to everyone who donates, volunteers, or makes plans to come and participate in these activities with family and friends, the people of St. Aloysius are creating an active and thriving community now and for years to come! If you are interested in joining the Parish Committee, contact representative, Pat Wyss at (260) 740-2296.

  • ROSARY SODALITY

The Rosary Sodality is the women's group of St. Aloysius Parish. The purpose is to promote the spiritual welfare of the women of the parish through prayer and service. It is open to all women of the parish, eighteen years and older. Special attention is given to the needs of the altar, sanctuary, and church.

We share our faith at meetings and through special activities. With our Book Club, we read books on faith and spirituality. We share a meal and discuss how this applies to our lives in today's world. Our book for this summer will be Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur.

We gather to pray the Rosary and offer a Mass for deceased members. A funeral dinner is provided at the family's requests.

Current officers are Kathy Heckber (President), Sue Tucker (Vice President) and Brenda Taylor (Secretary/Treasurer).

Becoming a member is easy! Annual dues are $10. Look for the meeting annoucement in the bulletin and come join us! For more information, email Kathy Heckber at kheckber52@gmail.com.

  • FOOD DONATIONS FOR FUNERAL DINNERS

After a funeral takes place, the church provides a meal for the bereaved. This ministry would not be possible without the donations of prepared dishes by parish members. Volunteers are placed on a list and are usually called upon to provide a dish for alternating funeral dinners.

Volunteers are asked to provide one of the following: a salad, casserole (ex - scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole), deviled eggs or a dessert (ex - pies, cakes, cookies). You are only asked to make a single batch of your recipe; you aren't required to double or triple your recipe for a crowd. If you prepare a casserole, you don't even need to cook it in advance. Simply bring your uncooked casserole to the church and volunteers will cook it at the appropriate time before the dinner so that it is hot and fresh for meal time.

On the day of the funeral, bring your item to the back door of the Activity Center by 9 a.m. You can make arrangements to drop it earlier that morning if necessary. To make the process easier, food should be prepared in a disposable container. If you prefer to use a dish that you would like returned to you, funeral dinner volunteers will wash your dishes after the meal and leave them in the Activity Center kitchen for you to pick up at your convenience.

If you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please contact Judy Pfeiffer at (260) 417-1238 or jkpfwin@aol.com

  • FINANCE COUNCIL

The Finance Council advises the Pastor on financial matters of the parish and school. This group is responsible for monitoring all income and expenses, and approving the annual budgets.

  • ALTAR SERVERS

Any youths (boy or girl) in grades 3 through high school are welcome to serve at Mass. Call the office at 260-622-4491 to schedule a training session and be put on the calendar.

Serving at the altar is a special and unique opportunity to grow deeper in one's faith. Pope Saint John Paul II so beautifully stated this in his Address at the General Office, August 1, 2001, the 1,000th of his pontificate:

"3. The altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. He who serves at Mass, presents himself to a community. He experiences firsthand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act. Jesus is present when the community comes together to pray and render praise to God. Jesus is present in the Word of sacred Scripture. Jesus is present above all in the Eucharist under the signs of bread and wine. He acts through the priest who, in the person of Christ, celebrates the holy Mass and administers the sacraments.

Therefore, in the liturgy, you are much more than simple "helpers of the parish priest." Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest. Thus, you, altar servers, are called in particular to be young friends of Jesus. Be determined to go deeper and to cultivate this friendship with him. You will discover that in Jesus you have found a true friend for life."
